Two songs that I listen to a lot these days:
- “After all”, on We Have Band’s new album Ternion. I find the acoustic version of this title far superior to the original, electronic version (which is paradoxical, for an electro band!). In particular, from roughly 1:20 in this version, I find that the different repetitive elements combine in a surprising harmonic fabric, maybe not unlike gamelan. Unfortunately for you, the sound of the version below is a bit unbalanced to the left — you’ll have to buy the album to hear it as it was meant to. 😉
- “Splitting the Atom”, from Massive Attack’s eponymous album. It is superbly funereal, ominous, the kind of music you’d expect in a voodoo parlor. Pure genius.
